Oklahoma City may not be renowned as the city of love, but it is a city full of adventure. Between the up-and-coming food and arts scene and its unique adventure experiences, OKC is overflowing with fun things to do for couples. While all of these ideas can also make the perfect solo experience, my husband and I curated this list from our favorite OKC date nights.

Start with a Coffee Date

So many OKC coffee shops offer their own unique vibe in addition to delicious coffee. Tailor your coffee shop selection based on your partner’s favorite things.

Are you plant parents? Enjoy the greenery as you sip at Stitch. If bookstores are your jam, grab a cortado and find a new read at Commonplace Books. Looking for a daintier dessert to accompany your caffeine? Choose a colorful macaron at Cafe Disco.

Admire Art

Endless murals, museums for any taste, and even some iconic sculptures put OKC on the map when it comes to art. Discovering art is a great date idea because it encourages discussion and is a fun way to get to know your partner’s perspective. Luckily, there is no shortage of art to find here!

Walking, talking, and finding murals make the perfect casual date. Interlaced between amazing restaurants and shops, the Plaza District offers the most concentrated selection of murals within a few blocks. You can even find the art on Instagram @plazawalls. Other places to find murals include 23rd Street, Automobile Alley, and the Paseo District. Bricktown is another can’t-miss place when it comes to murals, especially the great entrance tunnels off of Broadway!

For a more structured art tour, check out one of the many museums in Oklahoma City. Factory Obscura offers a more avant-garde (free!) experience at “The Womb,” while the American Banjo Museum is perfect for any folk music or history buff. You can even learn to play the banjo there. You can, of course, explore the OKCMOA, and for a fun (also free!) contemporary experience visit the 21c Museum Hotel.

When it comes to large-scale art, the Skydance Pedestrian Bridge should be at the top of your list. Inspired by the Scissortail Swallow (the Oklahoma state bird), Skydance is easy to access and offers a great view of the skyline. It makes a great photoshoot spot day or night when it lights up! But for sculptures with more realism, nothing beats the Land Run Monument located in the Bricktown canal. Constructed at Heroic size ( 1.5x life-size) these bronze statues depict one of the most notorious moments in Oklahoma history: the day thousands of settlers rushed in for a free claim on “unassigned” land. Plan to spend at least an afternoon walking the Bricktown Canal. To get the best view of all 47 statues you can even get up close and personal with a few.

Experience an Urban Adventure Together

If you are looking for a more athletic activity, head to the Oklahoma River. There you will find Riversport OKC, offering everything adrenaline lovers need from water sports to high ropes courses and a zip-line. Check out my full post on white water rafting OKC to see why Riversport would make the perfect date for adventurers!

Further west down the river you will find Wheeler Park, the new home of the historic Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel. Pack some food and borrow a picnic blanket (provided at the park) for the perfect afternoon hangout. With bocce ball, yard games, picnic areas, hammocks, and fun shade sheds, you and your love could spend all afternoon here.

The river is not the only place to find an adventurous date. In north Oklahoma City off Western and Pawnee, Chisholm Creek is quickly becoming the premier business park for adventurers. It would be remiss to list fun things to do in OKC for couples without mentioning indoor skydiving at iFly or the climate-controlled hi-tech driving range at Topgolf. Both are fun dates for any time of year!

Ditch the Car

Another fun OKC date idea is getting to know the city itself. To do that, leave your car behind and find a new method of transport.

The Bricktown Water Taxi is an off-the-beaten-path method of seeing the city. Tickets are good all day, so hop on the taxi to get to different attractions within Bricktown. And be sure to ride to the end of the canal to get behind-the-scenes info on the Land Run Monument.

We felt the most connected to the city by taking the OKC Streetcar. Not only does it save money on parking expenses, but it also allows you to sit back and enjoy the views of the city.

If you prefer walking, Myriad Botanical Gardens is the ultimate date spot. Stroll around the free outdoor grounds featuring waterfalls, walking paths, benches, a koi pond, and artistic landscaping, all at the foot of the Devon Tower. Inside the Crystal Bridge is an incredible gardenscape. Both tropical and desert plants coexist here in an architecturally beautiful greenhouse cylinder.

You can even take a stroll over to Scissortail Park, OKC’s newest 70-acre public space. Take a romantic walk around the beautifully manicured grounds, hold hands as you roller skate at the outdoor Sky Rink, or take a spin in a pedal boat on the pond.

To escape the heat or the snow, you can still explore the city on foot by heading Underground. The Underground is a tunnel network that connects over 20 blocks. Each section features a different color and is another place to find murals and art (and secret restaurants.)

Best OKC Dinner Dates

Oklahoma City has so many fantastic options for a classic dinner date. So many, that it would be impossible to list them all in one post. Instead, my husband and I picked out our five favorite spots for a dinner date in OKC.

  • Tamashii Ramen: An authentic ramen house with incredible flavor. Great for a casual date night with a fun atmosphere.
  • Waffle Champion: My personal favorite OKC restaurant. Another great spot for a casual date night.
  • Mary Eddy’s: Located inside 21c Hotel, you can tell that you are dining in an art museum when you eat here. Perfect for a special occasion.
  • The Jones Assembly: Offering food, drinks, and music, check out their lineup to enjoy dinner and a show.
  • Empire Slice House: The perfect pizza date. Choose a slice of the day or split your own pie if you dare.

Well, that sums up our favorite things to do in Oklahoma City as a couple. For even more pictures check out my Instagram and if you ever have a question you can always DM me @cassiescompass. Have any of these inspired OKC date ideas for you? I’d love to know in the comments!
