As a Christian traveler, adventure and discovering new destinations are my favorite ways to get to know God, the Creator of it all. I’ve found that the more of this world I see, the less I truly know.
On that note, I love finding other adventurers who also appreciate the Creator of this beautiful world we get to explore. For this post, I turned to eighteen women to get their perspectives as Christian travelers.
I asked them one question: Where is your favorite place to appreciate God’s creation?

I was in Bordeaux, France and had taken the afternoon to walk around and explore. I walked into an old Gothic church at a random time, around 2:00pm in the afternoon, and it was completely empty except for this young woman singing a hymn at the front of the church in this angelic voice that carried through the high ceilings of the nave. Her back was to me, so I sat in a back pew and listened. It was one of those times when I needed a reminder of God’s presence and what could have been a cold, empty church, was filled with this woman’s beautiful voice worshipping God and it brought me to tears. Discovering Anew
Have you ever wanted to walk on water like Jesus? We had this experience on a secluded, sandy spot at the tip of Michigan at Wilderness State Park. Warm, shallow water stretches out for miles, creating a unique feeling of water walking. This moment created an overwhelming sense of trust that the one who can calm the seas and walk on water, also cares for me. He delights in me and created this vast wildness for me to discover. Last summer we were able to take a long weekend in Crested Butte, Colorado. Luckily, we visited during the wildflower festival, which is the time of year when all the wildflowers bloom along the mountain.
There was one mountain (Gothic Mountain) that I could not stop staring at. I actually saw it first from the parking lot and along the hike to Judd Falls. While it was hard to ignore the wildflowers blooming everywhere, my attention kept coming back to the massive Gothic Mountain as the sun shined right on it.
I see mountains all the time. What was it about this one? Perhaps it was the position of the sun at that very moment. But the way it stood with confidence brought my thoughts to the incredible creations around that God has so generously gifted us.
The weekend just kept giving me experiences like this. Seeing my kids enjoying nature. Seeing wildflowers everywhere. Witnessing town and life below from the top of a mountain. The creations all around Crested Butte were a wonderful gift that weekend that I’ll never forget. Megan of Let’s Jet, Kids!
Travel Compositions
A place I would often visit when I lived on the Big Island, Hawaii was South Point, famous for being the southernmost point in the US with a green sand beach and cliff diving.
I had a quiet, craggy spot to sit barefoot among the cliff rocks to meditate on God’s glory and beautiful creation, watching the sun reflect on the seemingly endless ocean and various kinds of fish feeding in the clear blue waters.
The crashing of aqua waves against the towering cliff walls was a beautiful reminder of God being our unwavering rock and fortress when life’s burdens come crashing down on us. Tabitha of Travel Compositions

Travel Must Do’s
Maui, Hawaii is truly an idyllic location and my favorite place to admire God’s handiwork. I’m fortunate enough to have visited this paradise on multiple occasions and each time it has been a unique experience full of divine wonders. Every winter the waters surrounding the island are populated by migrating humpback whales, offering those who visit majestic views of these creatures in their natural environment – leaping out from beneath the ocean surface in graceful splendor! Such sights never fail to inspire feelings of awe within me.
During one of our whale-watching tours, we were graced with an incredible experience: a majestic whale directly passed beneath our boat and their song echoed in the air without any help from external audio equipment. The captain said that something like this only happens once every season, so it was truly remarkable to witness this phenomenon firsthand! Your Friend the Nomad
I recently had the privilege of visiting Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, a stunning lake surrounded by active volcanoes. Lush jungles encompass the lake, adorned with several bright and lively indigenous villages. Lake Atitlan is easily the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited, but also the most impoverished.
As I took in the grandeur of God’s creation at Lake Atitlan, I asked God to guide me in caring for the least of these as I travel and to show me how to share my experiences in a way that honors locals and acknowledges difficult realities. World Adventurists
My favorite place to appreciate God’s creation is with the power of waterfalls. When the mist of the falls is in full force, you can hear a thunderous roar from far away. Each waterfall has its own personality; some are wild and cascading, while others are gentle and calming. No matter what type of waterfall I’m admiring, it always brings me a sense of peace and awe and is an incredible reminder that no matter the situation, God is there.
The beauty of Wells Gray Provincial Park is one that will stay with you forever. This stunning landscape is home to four large waterfalls—Helmcken Falls, Dawson Falls, Moul Falls, Spahats Creek Falls—and over 39 smaller ones that are just as impressive. Debbie of World Adventurists
World Travel Connector
I have been fortunate to have visited many holy sites and natural wonders around the globe. However, one experience stands out among all of my travel endeavors and that is hiking Mount Sinai in Egypt. Following Moses’ footsteps, climbing the mountain where God spoke to Moses and gave him the Ten Commandments was an experience like no other.
I hiked Mt Sinai at night and waited for the sunrise at the top of the mountain. Hiking mount Sinai on the night of the full moon was a journey per se. The full moon illuminated my steps toward the summit and showed me the splendor of the ancient mountain. The scenery of Mt Sinai is known as harsh and cruel but mystical and unearthly too. The same goes for my hike on a cold November night. It was challenging but beautiful. And reaching the summit and watching the sunrise from the site where Moses received the Ten Commandments was transcendental. Her Wanderful World
One of the most beautiful places where I bask in the awesomeness of God is Rocky Mountain National Park. The most stunning area to take in God’s beauty is Mills Lake. The lake is nestled in between imposing granite and alpine walls, with clear waters to see the wildlife beneath. The Bonnie Traveler
The gently rolling hills of Ireland are my favorite place to appreciate God’s creation. When I think about the Lord, many concepts come to mind, but peace stands out among them. Peace is mentioned over 400 times in the Bible. And if I was to give peace a color, I would choose green, not just any green, the deep, rich, vibrant greens of Ireland.
The pastoral hills dotted with stone hedgerows and fluffy white sheep remind me of the good Shepherd and the calming, restful place described in Psalm 23. Ireland embodies the “green pastures and quiet waters” of the psalm, and I left a little piece of my heart there, hoping that one day I can go back and experience it again with my family. Stuck On The Go
I travel for a living so the most common question that I get is “Where is your favorite place you’ve been?”
In some ways, that’s a difficult question because I’ve had the privilege to visit so many amazing places. In other ways, it’s a simple answer – the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I grew up and still live in the foothills of North Carolina where I only have to drive an hour until I’m in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. These mountains hold so many amazing memories.
I’ve spent countless hours exploring the small towns near Asheville, hiking to gorgeous mountain views, and driving the Blue Ridge Parkway with friends and family.
Every time I’m in the Blue Ridge, I am overwhelmed with gratitude that this is where God chose to put me for my time on Earth. I am thankful for the people that he’s put in my life that I’ve gotten to share these memories with. This is where it’s easiest to talk to God. Anna of Stuck On The Go
Intentional Travelers
While we prefer traveling internationally and living abroad for cultural exchange, when it comes to natural beauty, we find that the National Parks are some of the most awe-inspiring places in our own country.
Coming from Oregon and Hawaii, parks like Capitol Reef seem other-worldly. This contrast in geography from what we’re used to humbles us and reminds us how big, beautiful, and diverse God’s creation is. Michelle and Jedd of Intentional Travelers
Adventures Abound
Mount Rainier is more than just a beautiful view seen from Seattle. This park has been a refuge to me through times of grief and hurt over the past several years, so it always comes to mind when thinking of God’s beautiful creation. It was one of the first places our new friends in a new city brought us, and to get out of the city and into this lush, wild place was a balm to my soul.
Mount Rainier was the first place my mom and I ever hiked together, stopping to take in every view and photograph every vista, healing our relationship along the way.
During the worldwide shutdown of 2020, we spent the entire summer driving for hours back and forth to the national park, finding peace in the woods and seeing the immeasurable beauty of God’s creation. Every time I come to this mountain, I am in awe. Michele of Adventures Abound
Unearth the Voyage
One of my favorite places to appreciate God’s creation is Antelope Canyon which is one of the most beautiful slot canyons in the world. When hiking through Antelope Canyon the sun illuminates the vertical canyon walls in gorgeous colors such as red, orange, pinks and purples. Also, if you go at the right time of day you can see the famous light beams shining down from the ceiling, creating a breathtaking image and one that will surely make you appreciate this gorgeous place. Traverse with Taylor
While I’m mainly traveling around Europe (Amsterdam and Edinburgh, in particular), I have to say that my favorite place to bask in the presence of God is in Utah. Without a doubt, the most stunning place for me to appreciate God’s creation is at the top of the Angel’s Landing hike in Zion National Park.
Utah just has this amazing landscape that looks like something out of a movie scene. Standing here, overlooking the canyons, valleys, and mountains, is the perfect place to reflect on the consistent mercies and gifts of God. Our journey as Christian travelers is even more special by sharing experiences with others who appreciate the beauty of God’s creation. From all fifteen women I’ve spoken with, I’ve learned that traveling isn’t just about exploring unfamiliar places. It’s also a reminder to seek God in every aspect of our lives. He can be honored and praised wherever we go.
