Most people will tell you that one day is not enough time to get to know Denver. However, whether you have a layover or if you are only passing through, there are still plenty of ways to experience the city in just a few hours. Here is a simple guide to getting to know Denver in a day.

Visiting Denver without a Car

Denver has one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the United States. As such, spending 24 hours in Denver without a car is very doable. Upon arrival at Denver International Airport, take the University of Colorado A Line to Union Station. A 24-hour pass from the airport costs $10.50 and is good for any RTD Light Rail or Bus for the rest of the day.

**Pro Tip: If you are only on a layover, store your baggage at LugDen. Although I haven’t personally used their service, I saw their checkpoint just outside of Union Station and it looked so convenient. LugDen offers a cheaper hourly rate than the 24-hour flat fee that the Crawford Hotel in Union Station offers.

Union Station Denver

Union Station is a historic landmark that is over 100 years old. It also happens to be the most convenient starting place for exploring Denver in a day. With over a dozen shops and eateries, check out Union Station’s directory to understand why it is referred to as Denver’s “living room.” Plus, the Progressive Era decor makes Union Station a destination in itself.

Things to do in Downtown Denver

Next, explore the area surrounding Union Station, also known as “LoDo”. These are a few of my favorite spaces to see in downtown Denver.

  • Denver Milk Market– Denver is known for its food halls and Milk Market is one of the most popular.
  • Larimer Square– Hosting nearly constant events, Larmier Square is worth walking around taking in the city. Be sure to get a picture under its signature canopy lights.
  • REI– Just beyond LoDo’s limits is REI’s flagship store. The store feels very Colorado with its immense selection of outdoor gear. The river area surrounding it is a beautiful place to hang out on a nice day.
  • Coors Field- If the Rockies happen to be playing while you visit Denver, Coors Field also offers stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. Rumor has it that more home runs are hit here because of the thin mile-high air.
  • Denver Mint– One of only two places that manufacture coins in the United States, visiting the mint is truly unique to Denver.

What do you think? Is Denver doable in one day? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
